Almost Nuts! announces their support for Connecticut's big win as the first state to require labeling of GMOs
Denmark, WI (PRWEB) December 13, 2013 -- Gov. Dannel Malloy held a ceremonial bill signing in Fairfield, CT on Wednesday to commemorate a bill that requires certain foods intended for humans to be clearly marked that it is entirely or partially genetically engineered. And for Almost Nuts!, who believe in the Non-GMO Project, this is a beautiful thing.
At its core, the Non-GMO Project is all about the right to know what is and isn't made naturally. Genetically Modified Organisms, as it is, are made in a lab by scientists mutating, inserting and deleting genes in a plant or animal and, oftentimes, crossing them with another species to make the organism larger and more abundant. Although many European and Asian governments see GMOs as unstable and dangerous for human consumption, the US has allowed these engineered products into the US market, leaving some skeptical and triggering a public backlash.
In addition to the effort to label foods that contain GMOs, several verified non-GMO products are also being slapped with special stickers created by the group. The Non-GMO Project is North America’s only independent verification for products made according to best practices for GMO avoidance. While the group pushes for more wins like Connecticut's they can continue to help inform consumers by identifying and labeling non-GMO foods that meet their rigorous standards.
