Sub Zero Ice Cream Opens its First International Store
Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt, based out of Provo, Utah, will open its first international store in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates this week. The Abu Dhabi store will be the flagship international store with other countries opening up to the Sub Zero concept in the next few years.
The Abu Dhabi store, located in the Abu Dhabi mall, will mark 29 stores since the company was founded in 2004. Founders Jerry and Naomi Hancock are pleased with the progress of Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt and look forward to much growth in the future.
“The international store is the beginning of a bright future for Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt,” said Hancock. “We anticipate several hundred stores to open in the next 10 years and hopefully many of those will be international.”
Mohanad Hendi, the Master Franchisee in Abu Dhabi and General Manager of a local food management company, has been working with the Sub Zero corporate office over the last several months to get everything set up overseas. As the first international store, Hendi is excited to bring a fresh concept to desserts in the UAE.
“As Master Franchisee of Sub Zero in the GCC, we are excited to introduce a concept never seen in the region before, one that will revolutionize the way people think about ice cream,” said Hendi. “We wanted to bring a totally new proposition that not only can we satisfy any sweet tooth, but we can entertain each customer while we do so.”
Through Sub Zero’s instant-freezing process, the ice cream is the creamiest on the market because the water crystals don’t have time to form. Customers can choose from a variety of flavors, cream bases, mix-ins and even the consistency of their ice cream, which offers the optimum amount of customization in each serving.
"The United Arab Emirates is a cosmopolitan country and the perfect place for innovative food concepts to thrive,” said Bénédicte Capdevielle, Business Development Director at The Gourmet Company. “We are thrilled to have the first Sub Zero international location open in Abu Dhabi.”
Hendi has the master franchising rights in the GCC, which gives him the jurisdiction to open many Sub Zero franchises over the coming years. Sub Zero’s 30th store opens at the end of this week with contracts finalized for other parts of the United States and varying countries.
