Are you a college student wanting to get your foot in the door of a company? One way to do that is to get an internship, which these days may not be a difficult as you might think.
Internships are on the rise, according to a recent article in Forbes. This year 36% of companies have offered internships this year, and the outlook for 2014 is even better as companies plan on hiring 53% more interns.
“Interns get great work experience while still being in school. It lets them test out different fields related to their major, without committing to a 9 to 5 job, says Tracy LeRoux, founder and CEO of The Link Agency. “It also benefits the employer. We work with interns all the time and they work out great!”
In addition 86% of students say that their internship was a positive experience. Not to mention the chances of getting hired are good: 69% of large companies make full-time job offers and, 39% of small companies make full-time job offers to interns.
LeRoux sheds light on the difference between large and small company internships. “At a small company you can get the chance to work with top management, leading to networking opportunities. At a large company, interns only get stuck in a corner making copies or getting coffee. Sometimes working at a small company you are a bigger part of the team, giving you a chance to work on actual projects.”
