Intelliwave Wins Bentley 2013 "Be Inspired" Award
Leduc, Alberta (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- The international award ceremony is being hosted today, October 30th, 2013 in London England where Intelliwave Technologies President Dale Beard gave the final presentation amidst Bentley’s international audience, sharing a truly inspirational approach to creativity and success thus winning the "Be Inspired 2013" award.
Along with Dale was the client JV Drivers representative, Mike Miketon, Corporate Project Controls Manager. Mike shared the bird’s eye view of how the actual project unfurled and its path to success not only in the client’s eyes, but in the eyes of the Global Construction and their peers.
Charged with expanding a major oil sands operation in northern Alberta, Canada, JV Driver faced numerous challenges that would have made the successful, on-time completion of the project difficult if not impossible without the creative implementation of a number of true industry innovations.
To overcome these barriers, JV Driver turned to Bentley and Intelliwave Technologies to create an innovative solution that would allow them to leverage technology to successfully complete the project using fewer crew than usual. Working closely with JV Driver, the two companies responded to the challenge and developed the revolutionary integration of Bentley’s ConstructSim workface planning software with Intelliwave SiteSense® RFID sensor technology to enable the successful installation of over 200,000 linear feet of pipe and the facility’s tagged equipment pieces.
The true innovation on this project, however, was the integration of these two state-of-the-art technologies. SiteSense® material location and availability data is automatically sent to ConstructSim and integrated into the VCM. ConstructSim allows the construction planners on the project to view complete systems down to the component level in the VCM and to create and revise FIWPs directly from the model with unprecedented ease and efficiency, not to mention accuracy thanks to the integration of the real-time material availability data from SiteSense®.
The benefits are impressive. Overall, the use of ConstructSim is estimated at having reduced FIWP planning time by 90% on over 275 FIWP’s. "I was able to scope our initial piping field installation work packages in about a week using Bentley ConstructSim," said Darien Schultz, Piping Coordinator, JV Driver Projects. "On a job this size, I would expect a planner to take several months to complete this task using traditional methods. ConstructSim made FIWP revisions a breeze allowing me to keep my planning crew to a minimum," he added.
Crew foreman are also able to use ConstructSim to reduce redundancy and rework. "Materials we slated to be delivered to the workface for ConstructSim field installation work packages in some cases were not immediately found by installation crews," said Mike Norris, Materials Manager, JV Driver Projects. "With ConstructSim status visualizations, crew foreman were able to quickly see if material had already been issued and use SiteSense to locate the materials rather than making a duplicate issue request," he added.
Overall, this ground-breaking combination of the two systems has enabled JV Driver to drive materials management trial allocations and to ensure only executable work is released to the field; resulting in substantial field productivity improvements that will be fully quantified at the completion of the project but are currently estimated to be in the range of 10-15%.
