Design Workshops Created By RKS Teach The Magic of Innovation
THOUSAND OAKS, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Companies invest fortunes on innovation and product strategy. But by some estimates 80% of new products fail or dramatically under perform. Every year, though, a few rare products succeed brilliantly. Why? Their creators have seamlessly integrated corporate strategy with design. They don’t deliver utilitarian objects, but instead they craft rewarding, empowering experiences. To outsiders, this looks like magic: incomprehensible, and impossible to reproduce. But it isn’t.
The highly visual frameworks used in the Predictable Magic Workshops that are led by the design and innovation firm, RKS, help participants better communicate the design process and choices they make with designer and non-designers alike, fostering collaboration between executives and creative teams (or even between educators and students). Sharing common visual frameworks helps individuals from different backgrounds, education, and seniority levels to collaborate more efficiently, communicate smoothly and reach mutually beneficial compromises, for successful outcomes.
The unique aspect of the RKS Predictable Magic workshop is the scalable and adaptable nature of the content. The Predictable Magic Workshop audience is not limited to a specific type of background, as RKS has led these workshops with audiences that range from creatives to non-creatives and from professionals to students. “What I love about the workshops is to see how different teams of participants, from different backgrounds, address the same challenge area, and yet each team is able to come up with a completely unique and relevant solution” says Harnish Jani, Director of Design Strategy and Research at RKS.
These workshops are facilitated at a variety of places and customized for different audiences. For the past few years, RKS has successfully collaborated with the CSULB industrial design program and their design methodology class. As a part of the course, RKS leads a workshop with the design students, sharing the Predictable Magic tools and introducing them to the Psycho-Aesthetics philosophy. After learning the frameworks, the students ultimately apply the tools when designing their own team projects and are then reviewed by the RKS team consequently. This past June, RKS took the workshop to the West Coast DMI Thinking Conference to share with creative design professionals. The workshop content was adapted to show the conference attendees how to rapidly ideate, evaluate innovative concepts, and communicate the value of design initiatives. Most recently, RKS modified the Predictable Magic workshop and led it at Cross Campus, a dynamic, coworking space located in Santa Monica. This workshop resulted in a much broader audience participation that included non-creative professionals, entrepreneurs and corporate managers who collaborated in teams to demonstrate outcomes that spanned products, services, and spaces.
