Team Lloyd Irvin Brings Stacked Squad to 2013 No Gi Worlds
Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) November 01, 2013 -- Team Lloyd Irvin will arrive in Los Angeles, CA this week to test their skills against the Worlds best in No Gi Jiu Jitsu competition. The IBJJF No Gi Worlds are held every Fall at the Walter Pyramid at the University of California Long Beach. Leading a group of over a dozen fighters is jiu jitsu mastermind Lloyd Irvin, who’s won the no gi Worlds twice himself. Julius Park and Roberto Torralbas will also be coaching their students from Team Lloyd Irvin affiliate academies Crazy 88 and Team Third Law, respectively.
Leading the charge for the Black belts of Team Lloyd Irvin will be returning No Gi champion DJ Jackson. Last year Jackson won the Black belt middle weight division, defeating the popular Clark Gracie in route to the title. This year DJ has the likes of Gilbert Burns, Leondro Lo, and Victor Oliverio in his way to a repeat performance. Jackson will also compete in the absolute weight division, where he narrowly missed third place in 2012. Jackson is looking to make this his 5th consecutive no gi world championship and 8th overall.
Nyjah Easton, Team Lloyd Irvin’s first female Black belt, will take on the women’s black belt feather weight division this weekend. She is looking to win her first major title at Black belt after taking third place last year and second place in the Gi Worlds earlier this year. Easton has two other ladies to face on her way to gold in the feather weight division, so she’ll likely need two matches for the championship.
Roberto Torralbas, coach and competitor, will be fighting in the mens Brown belt heavyweight division. Torralbas’ school, Team Third Law, is an affiliate member of Team Lloyd Irvin and his student often play a very important role in helping the overall Team with points at competition. Roberto is the favorite to win his division.
Sijara Eubanks is coming into her fifth year as a member of Team Lloyd Irvin and will be competing in the Medium Heavy womens division. With only one other opponent in her bracket, she’ll need one win to take the gold. She’s also set her sights on winning the absolute division, where there will likely be more matches. Eubanks is a 3x no gi world champion at purple belt.
Team Lloyd Irvin has a host of other competitors, all with good chances to win their respective divisions.
