Greenberg Traurig Vice President and Chicago Chairman Keith J. Shapiro to Receive Judge Learned Hand Award
CHICAGO (PRWEB) November 01, 2013 -- Keith J. Shapiro, Vice President and Chairman of the Chicago office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been selected to receive the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) prestigious Judge Learned Hand Award. The award, considered the highest given by the organization within the legal profession, recognizes lifetime achievement and dedication to individual rights and democratic values.
For his leadership in the legal profession and his dedication to the community, Shapiro will be recognized at the Judge Learned Hand Human Relations Award Dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Ritz Carlton Chicago, 160 East Pearson Street. The evening will feature remarks from U.S. Sen. Mark S. Kirk, a keynote speech by U.S. Rep. Peter J. Roskam and the award presentation by Illinois Attorney General Lisa M. Madigan.
AJC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing human rights and democratic values in the U.S. and worldwide, established the annual award in 1964 to recognize leaders in the legal profession for their excellence and contributions to the practice of law. The award honors the memory of Judge Learned Hand, a highly distinguished individual recognized as heir to Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes’ legacy of a Jurist and Poet of Liberty. Judge Hand, a graduate of Harvard and its law school, was widely admired as a Dean among American jurists and was well-known for the extensive range of decisions he tendered that centered on questions of constitutional rights and anti-trust legislation.
In addition to his role as vice president of Greenberg Traurig, Shapiro serves as Chairman of the Chicago office, as National Chairman of Strategic Recruitment and as Co-Chair of the firm’s Business Reorganization & Financial Restructuring Practice. He has more than 30 years of bankruptcy and restructuring experience. A leader in the restructuring community, Shapiro is a member of the International Board of Directors of the Turnaround Management Association. He was previously Chairman of the Board and President of the American Bankruptcy Institute, a member of the Board of Directors of INSOL International, and Chair of the Chicago Bar Association's Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee.
