Greenberg Traurig’s Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
NEW YORK (PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick, former New York State Court of Appeals Senior Associate Judge, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at a special dinner marking The New York Law Journal’s 125th anniversary. Ciparick is co-chair of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig’s National Appellate Practice and is based in the firm’s New York office. Fifteen other judges and lawyers are also being honored by the publication.

“During her tenure on the court she wrote some of the most significant decisions of the past two decades, carefully navigating complex issues from school funding and the separation of church and state, to the death penalty. Ciparick spent 19 years on New York State’s highest court and 15 years on the trial bench. She was appointed on December 1, 1993, by Governor Mario M. Cuomo who is also being honored by The New York Law Journal. She was re-appointed by Governor Eliot Spitzer in November 2007. During that time she wrote the majority opinion for the court in 322 cases, 62 dissents and 7 concurring opinions.

Having started her career as a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society in New York City, Ciparick left in 1969 and became an Assistant Counsel for the Judicial Conference of the State of New York. She then served as Chief Law Assistant of the Criminal Court of the City of New York and Counsel in the Office of the New York City Administrative Judge. In 1978, she was appointed Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York, and in 1982 was elected to the New York State Supreme Court.
In her current role as co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s National Appellate Practice, Ciparick advises clients on appellate matters, litigation strategy and mentors the firm’s junior lawyers. She remains active in public service and serves on the Chief Judge’s Task Force to Expand Access to Civil Legal Services, the New York State/Federal Judicial Council and the Institute on Professionalism and the Law. Ciparick was also recently appointed by the Chief Judge to co-chair the New York Justice Task Force that examines the causes of wrongful convictions.
