When Superstorm Sandy struck Oct. 29, it was a deadly reminder that hurricane season doesn't end in September. That's why Gulf Coast Supply & Manufacturing, LLC, (http://www.GulfCoastSupply.com), Florida's largest residential metal roofing manufacturer, is offering an updated checklist of what to do before a storm hits.

A total of 53 hurricanes have struck the United States in October since 1851. Of these, 16 have been major Cateegory 3 or higher huricanes.

This year's relatively weak hurricane season may have lulled some into complacency, but Gulf Coast Supply & Manufacturing, LLC, reminds homeowners that it was just a year ago that a late season storm dubbed Sandy caused billons in damage when it struck the New Jersey shore.

As a reminder that the 2013 season does not end until Nov, 30, GulfCoastSupply (GCS is offering an updated checklist of things to do before a storm hits.

According to the non-profit Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA), more than 50 million people now live along the nation's hurricane-prone coastlines, nearly double the number since 1970.

MRA notes that "more homeowners are turing to metal roofing to protect their homes and prevent costly repairs and damages. In fact, the residential metal roofing market has doubled over the last five years."

GulfCoast Supply, based in Horseshoe Beach, is Florida's largest residential metal roofing manufacturer. The geographical areas the company serves include Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and the Caribbean, all of which are vulnerable to severe storms.

For many architects, contractors and homeowners, GCS has been the metal roofing manufacturer of choice--and for good reason: Metal roofs are durable, attractive, long-lasting, fade-resistant and energy-efficient. In addition, the MRA reports that metal roofs are among the top-rated when it comes to enduring extreme weather conditions.

According to Weather.com "A total of 53 hurricanes have struck the United States in October since 1851. Of these, 16 have been major Cateegory 3 or higher huricanes."
