A blood test shows an infection with EBV. The standard blood test does not distinguish between different strains of EBV. In a press release published in October 2013 on Healthcanal.com, Henri-Jacques Delecluse of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) said “Scientists have known that there are differences in the genetic material of the various (EBV) viruses that occur worldwide. Doctors normally recommend that individuals be tested for EBV when they have symptoms such as fever, sore throat, swollen lymph glands, or if they suspect a patient has chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or Fibromyalgia. Serologic results for persons with infectious mononucleosis include an elevated white blood cell count, an increased percentage of certain atypical white blood cells, and a positive reaction to a ‘mono spot’ test (2).”
