(PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- November is National Diabetes Awareness Month
Prediabetes Centers Works to Raise Awareness for Diabetes
In observance of National Diabetes Month, Prediabetes Centers—the authority on prediabetes—is leading the effort to promote awareness with special content on its web site (http://www.prediabetescenters.com) and blog, a presence at diabetes-related events and enhanced outreach via Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media.
On the PreD Blog (http://prediabetescenters.com/blog/), the organization will be unveiling four new diabetes-friendly recipes created by the organization’s Concierge Chef, Han Ashley. These new dishes—which include Protein Pumpkin Muffins and Black Forbidden Rice with Roasted Pumpkin & Coconut Curry Almond Sauce—have the added benefit of being flavors well suited for late autumn.
Additionally, the PreD Blog will feature an entry from guest-blogger Lizmari Collazo, author of the entertaining and informative blog, The Angry Type 2 Diabetic (http://theangrytype2diabetic.blogspot.com/). In her guest feature, Lizmari will discuss her progression to a type 2 diabetic, some of the symptoms she displayed and how she worked to combat the disease after being confronted with her diagnosis.
PreDiabetes Centers will also have an increased social media presence in November. For instance, on its Twitter account (@PreDiabetesCtrs), the organization will be engaging readers with various diabetes and prediabetes-related facts.
Along with the increased social media and blog presence, representative from Prediabetes Centers will be at the American Diabetes Association EXPO in Pittsburgh on November 9 to conduct risk surveys and raise awareness for the disease.
To help commemorate its efforts this month, PreDiabetes Centers has developed a special seal (pictured). Shaped like a blood drop—a nod to the vital role that blood screening plays in catching prediabetes before it progresses to type 2 diabetes—the seal will accompany much of the new content being published in November.
Prediabetes is the precursor to type 2 diabetes and can raise a person’s risk for many serious complications, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney damage and eye problems. While the American Diabetes Association reports that 25.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, it is estimated that more than 79 million Americans have prediabetes, and most are unaware of their condition. About 11% of people with prediabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes within three years. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 1 in 3 adults could have diabetes by 2050.
PreDiabetes Centers is a privately owned company based in Austin, Texas, dedicated to the prevention and treatment of diabetes. The company offers a 12-month personalized program that treats prediabetes and its associated conditions, and uses advanced biomarker testing to monitor specific processes in the body associated with prediabetic conditions.
