K A R D Offers New Training in Response to Concealed Carry Law
Bloomingdale, IL (PRWEB) November 05, 2013 -- While citizens now have the right to carry a concealed weapon in Illinois, they will not be issued a license without completing the proper training.
“Illinois requires more training than any other state—16 hours-- before a concealed carry permit can be issued from the Illinois State Police,” said Jeff James CEO of K A R D. “We’ve added training programs for concealed carry to make sure people are well prepared for licensing, and also understand the application of the law.”
Active, retired, and honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces shall be considered to have completed 8 hours of the 16 hour training requirement. Applicants who have completed a training course that is approved by the Department and recognized under the laws of another state may get up to 8 hours of training toward the 16 hour training requirement. A list of courses approved for up to 8 hours credit is available on the Illinois State Police website.
K A R D also offers the full “Concealed Carry” course to those who do not have other prior training certificates. The training covers topics such as firearm safety, use of force, interaction with law enforcement, shooting fundamentals, loading and unloading, malfunction, and live range fire.
Besides completing the mandated training, there are other requirements to fulfill before a gun owner can receive a concealed carry license. They must possess a valid FOID (firearm owner identification) card and be at least 21 years of age. They must be clear of drug violations, treatment for alcohol or drug addiction within the last five years, and have no felony convictions. They must also pass both an Illinois State Police and FBI fingerprint check.
