AvMed Medicare Achieves Elite Status, Four-and-a-Half Stars
Miami, Fla. (PRWEB) November 05, 2013 -- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded Florida-based AvMed four-and-a-half (out of a possible five) stars for its 2014 Medicare Advantage plans.
The CMS designation places AvMed among the top 12% of all Medicare Advantage plans in the country and one of only three Florida plans to reach the tier. Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-Star rating system across 45 quality categories. Star Ratings are calculated each year and may change from one year to the next.
Several active campaigns impacted AvMed’s 2014 rating, including strides in outreach efforts, partnerships, patient safety, and a concerted drive to increase flu shot compliance among its membership. AvMed offers its Medicare products in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
“Our 4.5 Star Rating symbolizes the level of service and quality commitment we make to our Medicare Advantage members each and every day,” said Winston Lonsdale, AvMed Chief Medicare Officer. “We look forward to delivering the same commitment to the new members who will be joining AvMed during this open enrollment period.”
The annual Medicare open enrollment period is underway and continues through December 7, 2013 for Miami-Dade County. Because AvMed implemented a new Medicare Advantage plan in Broward County, CMS mandates that all affected members are dis-enrolled. This means all Broward County Medicare Advantage plan members must take action to re-enroll before January 1, 2014 in order to avoid losing their AvMed benefits. AvMed has made this process simple by mailing out forms with stamped return envelopes and by extending its call center hours. Members may re-enroll by calling 1-877-535-1387 (TTY-711 or 800-955-8771), 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week, or by visiting http://www.avmed.org/Medicare.
