Latest Riverwalk Award Showcases Turner Tree’s Public/Private Partnership Expertise
Bradenton, Florida (PRWEB) November 07, 2013 -- Riverwalk was named the best "New Installation - Institutional/Public" by the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA). Riverwalk was one of only nine projects statewide honored by the FNGLA. And Turner Tree was one of only two private companies recognized for the award.
"Riverwalk is a great example of how public/private partnerships can transform communities," said Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, who presented the award.
Darrell Turner, owner of Turner Tree and Landscape, also heralded the award’s significance in highlighting the promise of public/private partnerships.
"Private companies like ours have tremendous expertise to offer public projects like Riverwalk," Turner said. "We’re thrilled that through our work, we can help call attention to the promise of public/private partnerships."
Turner Tree & Landscape and Kimley-Horn Architects were the two private firms recognized with the award. The two businesses worked closely with the city of Bradenton, its Downtown Development Authority, Manatee County, and the Florida Department of Transportation.
Turner Tree has worked on at least 25 public/private partnerships during its 30-year history, including 15 parks.
Turner credits his company’s formidable record in the field of public/private partnerships to four key skills:
• Effective communication with five or more collaborators at once.
• Keen organizational skills that can handle, "a floating schedule with an immovable deadline."
• Start-to-finish coordination skills that cover everything from tree-planting to engineering, and.
• Training in environmental preservation so that public lands and natural resources are protected.
"It takes a unique company to successfully juggle the needs of government agencies with subcontractors, and we’ve been doing it well for decades," Turner said. "This award is a positive reflection on the diversity of what we provide."
Turner Tree and Landscape is an award-winning bonded landscape contractor, in business since 1983, that provides a full array of landscape design services. Turner Tree Farm grows an estimated 250,000 trees on 1,200 acres and works with companies and governments throughout the southeast United States. Both companies’ headquarters are at 2504 64th St. Ct.
