Today, Paul Field announced his departure from The Daily Mail to join NYC video startup, TouchCast. Field, joint third in command at the The Daily Mail, runs the Mail's digital editions and led the development and launch of the Mail's new paid-for app Mail Plus.
Nominated by Adweek as one of the hottest start-ups of 2013, TouchCast, available on iPad and soon Desktop, is a new technology that brings the interactivity of the web into video, creating a new super-medium - the video web.
Field, who will become the CEO of TouchCast Studios UK, will lead TouchCast’s international expansion by setting up a European subsidiary based in London. As his first charge, Field will focus on building a studio that will produce content using TouchCast's technology.
He will also serve as an international liaison to TouchCast’s European enterprise clients and is due to work closely with a major international broadcaster that already has plans to integrate TouchCast into its own digital operations.
His role as CEO of TouchCast Studios UK will also see him working closely with TouchCast's team in New York where the company is headquartered. He will report to TouchCast CEO Edo Segal.

The 41-year-old executive has been with the Mail since 2006, first as Executive Editor of The Mail on Sunday, then Editor in Chief of the Mail's Irish operations in Dublin for three years, before returning to London as Associate Editor of the Daily Mail in 2010. He spent six years previously at the Mail as a reporter and later news editor.
Before switching responsibility from print to digital, Field oversaw the re-launch of Weekend magazine and ran major promotions for the paper including a series of successful collaborations with Jamie Oliver.
In April 2012 he set up a small team to re-imagine the Mail's print titles, including The Mail on Sunday's You magazine, for the tablet.
Working closely with the Mail's Editor in Chief Paul Dacre and DMGT Chairman Lord Rothermere, Field launched Mail Plus, a new premium, subscription-based app available in the Apple, Amazon and Google app stores.
He has grown the Mail Plus operation in 18 months from himself and an IT colleague to a staff of 90 with its own newsroom within the Mail's offices in London.
Apple has featured Mail Plus as an Editor's Choice and Featured App in its App Store and has worked with Field to promote the brand.
TouchCast, launched on iPad and was featured in the Apple Store earlier in June, was founded by serial entrepreneur and investor Edo Segal, former TechCrunch Editor and DEMO Executive Producer Erick Schonfeld, and product designer Charley Miller. Segal also notably founded Relegence, the first real-time search company, which he sold to AOL in 2006.
