D. Miller & Associates, PLLC Reports on Stryker's Doubled Hip Implant Recall Cost Estimates; Estimated Costs Now Nearly $1 Billion

Stryker, hip implant system manufacturer, has recently doubled its original estimate of the cost to recall its Rejuvenate and ABG II implant systems. D. Miller & Associates is currently evaluating cases of those who have been harmed by an allegedly faulty Styker hip implant.

Stryker, manufacturer of the Rejuvenate and ABG II hip implants, is now expecting recall costs to be anywhere from $700 million to $1.13 billion according to recently released regulatory filings.* The original estimate in January of this year was $190 million to $390 million, less than half the new estimate.**

“These new numbers show just how many people were affected by Stryker’s defective implant system. This increase is more on par with what we originally expected to the be the impact of this problematic implant and we are happy to see more relief available for injured parties,” says Darren Miller, founding attorney of D. Miller & Associates, PLLC.

Stryker, a major orthopedic device manufacturer, voluntarily recalled its Rejuvenate and ABG II hip implants in July 2012, following numerous reports of severe complications from the device.*** Complications begin to arise when the parts rub together and cause metal shards to be released in surrounding blood and tissue. Several of those complications included heightened cobalt and chromium levels in the blood (known as metallosis), pain, swelling, and infection. An additional reported problem is an early failure of the device that results in the need for a revision or repair surgery for patients.

“We are here to help those who have been harmed by these problematic hip implants and this is definitely good news for us,” says Miller. If you or a family member has been harmed by the Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II implant, do not hesitate to speak with a medical professional and attorney today. The additional costs associated with problems from the device are not the patients to cover, and help is available.
