AlertSystems Offer Advice After CCTV in Truro May Be Lost
(PRWEB UK) 11 November 2013 -- This Is Cornwall has reported on November 5 in the article ‘CCTV Blackout Set for Truro when Police Station is Demolished’ that the CCTV, which is currently installed on a mast at the police station, will be withdrawn when the station is demolished next year to make space for 56 retirement flats. It is reported that Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed it will not pay the £75,000 needed to replace the CCTV system, with the council not expected to fund CCTV systems after the beginning of April 2014.
This Is Cornwall reports that in a Truro City Council meeting earlier this week, Inspector Mark Richard from Truro police said that the lack of CCTV would affect policing “massively”.
Speaking against the demolition of station, Councillor Bert Biscoe reportedly said that:
“It is simply one of a number of concerns, and is an illustration of the lack of thought that has gone into such as important reconfiguration of community infrastructure. The CCTV is essential in maintaining order of the night-time economy.”
As experts in commercial security systems, AlertSystems closely follow industry news and were interested in this recent decision to withdraw CCTV coverage from the city centre. A representative for the company offered their thoughts and gave advice to business owners:
“The news that CCTV may be withdrawn in Truro is the latest in a number of announcements over recent months that CCTV coverage is to be lost in several towns and city centres. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important for businesses to install their own CCTV security systems to offer protection to members of the public as well as their premises.
CCTV can be vital to the security of the area, with the systems able to act as effective crime preventatives. The systems can also work to monitor and prevent anti social behaviour and vandalism. In the event that a crime unfortunately occurs, footage from the CCTV cameras can be used by police as part of their investigations to help bring them to successful conclusions.
For businesses looking to install CCTV to compensate for the loss of systems in their local area, systems should be installed with the purpose of protecting the premises and offering security and reassurance to members of staff and the public. Choosing high quality CCTV security systems which capture clear footage is an important step in ensuring that adequate protection is given to the area, as if police need to use footage, the clear images can provide vital information which can assist them in their enquiries.”
