Resource Furniture Transforms Modular “Pedia-Pod” Hospital Room at GreenBuild Expo 2013
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 06, 2013 -- Resource Furniture is proud to announce the sponsorship of Building Design+Construction's "Pedia-Pod" a prototype pediatric treatment module to be featured in the Green Zone at GreenBuild 2013.
The innovative, pre-fab module is a "kid-friendly" 14-foot by 42-foot unit that showcases a number of design principles, practices and products that could make it worthy of a LEED Gold application, including a hyper-functional 180-square foot “Family Zone” which functions as a waiting area, play space, and work area while also providing much-needed sleeping facilities for families of the young patients.
The main system in the Family Zone is the Circe – a freestanding, multi-functional, seven-foot sofa during the day, that seamlessly transforms into a comfortable queen wall bed at night. The Circe is designed and made in Italy by Clei. The Family Zone also features dual-height, flip-down tables; one height for young children and one height for adults. A hanging closet, storage, comfortable seating, a media storage unit and a work station complete the space.
By collaborating with Resource Furniture, named “the biggest retailer in the multi-functional space in the U.S.” by The Wall Street Journal, the Pedia-Pod is able to provide the functionality of a space much larger than its actual footprint.
“Multifunctional furniture solutions, like the systems we are installing in the Pedia-Pod can have a measurable impact on sustainability–residential or commercial.” said Ron Barth, co-founder of Resource Furniture. “Any time that you can force one square foot to perform the function of two – or three, you create real value: monetary value, in terms of construction and maintenance cost savings, as well as environmental value in terms of ongoing energy savings”.
GreenBuild 2013 will mark the first trade show opportunity for Resource Furniture to showcase an installation of transforming furniture in a healthcare environment.
Clei bed systems feature water-based lacquers, FSC-CoC certified and CARB (2) compliant materials, and biodegradeable, solvent-free mattresses, important features in sensitive healthcare environments. Resource Furniture also provides a lifetime warranty on all mechanisms.
The module also boasts a specialized bathroom, treatment/recovery area, medical staff workstation, and features high-performance windows, energy-efficient lighting and controls, and water-saving plumbing fixtures. Pedia-Pod is designed and constructed by NRB, Ephrata, Pa, and will be on display at NRB's offices after the show.
Greenbuild 2013 International Conference & Expo will take place November 20-22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Contact Laura Anderson or Lisa Blecker at 212-753-2039 for information or to schedule an appointment.
