On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis and Harris Teeter associates will assemble 2,000 Thanksgiving dinner bags which will be given to families-in-need served by Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. The bag assembly is hosted in conjunction with Harris Teeter’s annual Harvest Feast Food Drive and Donation Card Campaign; the bags will be distributed through the food bank’s network of partner agencies.
The Thanksgiving dinner bags contain products for a delicious and easy Thanksgiving meal, including a Hormel ham, stuffing, sweet potatoes, buttery mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy and an apple pie.
To launch the bag distribution, Davis and Harris Teeter associates will visit Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, one of the food bank’s 44 Kids Café sites, immediately following the bag assembly to deliver the holiday meals to children served by that Kids Café location.
“Kelly and I look forward to the bag assembly at Second Harvest, and we’re especially excited about being at Bethlehem Center of Charlotte to distribute the first of the Thanksgiving bags to children,” said Davis. “We believe that we all have the power to assist youth in seeing the potential of their dreams in action and Bethlehem Center is a great example of an organization which provides programs to at-risk children to improve the quality of their lives.”
SHFBM opened its first Kid’s Café site in 1996; children are provided meals and supplemental snacks and families are able to make their household food budget stretch further because Kids Café helps to supplement some meals.
The Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation is a non-profit organization established to provide and promote programs that enhance the quality of life for children and families. The Foundation accomplishes this goal by assisting in community service efforts, educational development, youth sports and other community support services.
Harris Teeter would also like to thank its generous vendors who made this donation possible: Hormel, Coca-Cola Consolidated, Idahoan Foods, McCormick, Kings Hawaiian, Bruce Foods, Libby, Del Monte, Ocean Spray, Jessie Lord Bakery and New York Packaging.
