Medical Guardian Provides Thanksgiving Meals to Senior Citizens in Need

Medical Guardian will be donating a portion of their proceeds in the month of November in an effort to provide Thanksgiving meals to low-income elderly people in the Philadelphia area.

'Taking care of local seniors who need it the most is a reminder to all of us of what this Thanksgiving holiday is all about,' said Medical Guardian Communications Manager, Hilary Young.

A Brown University study published in the October issue of Health Affairs found that expanding programs that provide meals to seniors would help keep them out of nursing homes and reduce government spending on certain Medicare programs. Researchers discovered that Pennsylvania would have a net savings of $5.7 million, the highest savings out of all 50 states.

This Thanksgiving, Medical Guardian has agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds on sales made between November 1, 2013 and November 27, 2013 to Philadelphia-area non-profits that provide meals to the elderly in an effort to support programs that allow seniors to comfortably age in place.

“The elderly community is the backbone of our business so it is a pleasure to be able to give back to them,” said Medical Guardian Communications Manager, Hilary Young. “Taking care of local seniors who need it the most is a reminder to all of us of what this Thanksgiving holiday is really all about.”

The three recipients of food donations will be the Old Pine Street Church’s Saturday for Seniors program, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, and Aid for Friends, which collectively feed an estimated 2300 homebound elderly people in the Greater Philadelphia Area. A small team from Medical Guardian has also volunteered to serve the Thanksgiving meal at Saturdays for Seniors on November 23rd.

“The Saturday for Seniors program is in it’s 36th year of providing older adults a place to go for fellowship and food on the weekends,” said Linda Mill, Director of the Saturday for Seniors program. “It’s only through the generosity of our donors and volunteers, like Medical Guardian, that we can continue to fill this important need.”
