Families, Businesses & Special Needs Children Rally to Support America's Special Kidz (A.S.K.)'s First Fundraiser
Haledon, New Jersey (PRWEB) November 07, 2013 -- On October 27, 2013, a beautiful autumn afternoon, over 200 attendees comprised of families with special needs children, business professionals, young children, and individuals with disabilities rallied at La Neve’s Banquet Hall in Haledon, New Jersey to raise funds for America’s Special Kidz (A.S.K.). America’s Special Kidz is a NJ non-profit that serves families with children who have serious medical conditions, special needs and disabilities like autism spectrum disorders (http://americaspecialkidz.org/cool-technology-resources/autism-asperger), attention deficit disorder (http://americaspecialkidz.org/cool-technology-resources/attention-deficit-disorder), Down syndrome, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, diabetes, pediatric cancers, congenital heart disease, visual and hearing impairments, rare chromosome disorders and multiple disabilities.
“I am overwhelmed by those I like to call America’s “superstars,” they are typically-developing children from Bergen, Passaic and Morris counties who spent their weekends raising money to help America’s Special Kidz. We presented awards to these precious kids and paid tribute to the special needs children who were featured in the 2013 A.S.K. Resource Guides,” explained Joanne Bastante-Howard, child advocate and president of America’s Special Kidz. The children were also featured online at https://www.facebook.com/Americaspecialkidz.
“All kids deserve support in order to achieve their full potential. Many of them are in hospitals and feel invisible from the general population. We want them to know we see them and will do whatever we can to help them. We believe all kids are America’s future,” Ms. Howard stated.
A.S.K.’s mission is to unite and work with government agencies, schools, other non-profits as well as national and local businesses to provide families with printed and online resources, advocacy, educational/therapeutic tools, family support, and community workshops. A.S.K.’s resources to date include a comprehensive website, a print publication, educational materials, and job training/employment opportunities for children and individuals who are differently-ABLED. “I am excited about our accomplishments in 2013, but there is much more work ahead. We need financial support in order to meet the needs of the children,” concluded Ms. Howard.
In 2014, A.S.K. is planning on launching instructional DVDs and a campaign to raise financial support to help families pay their high out-of-pockets costs associated with the care of their special needs child.
