Aristocrat Plastic Surgery & MedAesthetics Publishes Infographic on the History of Liposuction
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- Aristocrat Plastic Surgery & MedAesthetics recently launched a History of Liposuction infographic, which visually represents the development of liposuction as a procedure and highlights the most significant achievements that improved and, eventually, perfected the procedure.
“It's quite interesting to see how surgical procedures have made their way in the aesthetics and beauty industry. Perhaps, the most amazing fact is that surgeons 100 years ago were as fascinated in procedures that improve the body shape as we are today,” says board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kevin Tehrani, founder of Aristocrat Plastic Surgery & MedAesthetics.
The roots of liposuction go way back to 1920, when surgeons started performing procedures that resulted in extraction of fat from different body parts. The interest in this specific procedure has been continuously on the rise ever since, inspiring various experiments and leading to surgical improvements which, through the decades, brought about the brand new surgical procedure known as liposuction.
The modern liposuction era began in 1977 when liposuction pioneers Arpad and Giorgio Fisher developed a method for a fat tissue removal within the body, using an electric-powered rotating scalpel. This achievement was later followed by an introduction of the wet liposuction technique by pioneer Dr. Yves-Gerard Illouz in 1978.
During the 1980s, plastic surgeons focused on acquiring extensive education in the field. For the first half of the decade, doctors visited various courses and seminars on the topic, and collaborated with other experienced plastic surgeons such as Dr. Illouz, all in order to expand their knowledge and perfect their skills for liposuction.
In the beginning of the 1990s, liposuction underwent major developments. The first Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction technique was developed in Europe and became widely popular and used around the world. The Tumescent Liposuction was also introduced and, due to its popularity, the Tumescent Liposuction Council was formed.
Later advancements in technology perfected the laser liposuction procedure even more. Technology innovations and improvements made space for new types of liposuction, such as the Water Assisted Liposuction.
Today liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for body contouring. According to Aristocrat Plastic Surgery & MedAesthetics' State of Plastic Surgery Infographic liposuction was among Top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures in 2012. The advancement of techniques and instruments for liposuction have made this procedure extremely safe and very easy to perform, at the same time achieving extremely satisfactory, permanent results.
“Patient's needs and well-being drive us, the plastic surgeons, to improve the way liposuction is performed and to develop techniques for achieving optimal results. It is crucial to stay up-to-date with all new approaches and techniques for liposuction. That's the best way to ensure that the patient is safe, comfortable and satisfied,” says Dr. Tehrani.
