Exo Level Inc., owners of the website AndroidTV.com and makers of the Android TV™ set top box for viewing movies and television programming, has announced a contest to help inspire the creation of related software.
The ROM Challenge will give away cash prizes of up to $10,000 along with Android TV™ set top boxes, mobile phones, tablet computers and other popular electronic devices, with software developers able to win prizes in multiple categories. For each business quarter the contest runs a grand prize will be awarded to a selected developer.
Grand prize winners may also be considered for full-time employment as developers on the Android TV™ research team.
“For Android developers everywhere, the ROM Challenge is an opportunity to have their name or company associated with one of the most innovative startups at the very forefront of communication technology,” says Scott Healms, Exo Level Inc. spokesperson.
Full details of the ROM Challenge are available on the AndroidTV.com website.
Since coming on the technology scene in 2007, the Android* operating system has captured an ever increasing portion of the smart phone and Internet capable device market. While Apple’s iPhone still accounts for a sizable percentage of new cell phone purchases, especially in the United States, Android-based devices make up over 60% of smart phone sales worldwide.
“With Android technology so rapidly evolving, we believe some of the most innovative new ideas will come from college campuses and other less formal sources,” notes Healms. “Exo Level Inc.'s Android TV™ products and services reflect the cutting edge of what’s new and exciting, and we see open competitions as a promising way to ensure innovators have a real chance at influencing the industry’s future direction.”
