Morgan & Morgan Welcomes Back Students and Alums with SpelHouse Homecoming Weekend Tailgate Party in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 08, 2013 -- On October 26, Morgan & Morgan had the pleasure of sponsoring a block party-style tailgate enjoyed by thousands of students and alumni from Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University that capped off the schools’ homecomings in Atlanta.
“Homecoming is huge here because there are multiple schools in very close proximity, so there are big crowds,” said Morgan & Morgan attorney and Morehouse College alumnus Justin Miller. “Plus, you get to see all your old friends and there are events all week. It makes you feel like you’re in college again.”
Though their homecomings are usually held on separate weekends, Morehouse College and Spelman College, joined this year for the first time by Clark Atlanta University, decided to combine their respective festivities, which ran from October 20 and culminated with a block party-style tailgate.
In addition to the SpelHouse Homecoming, Miller split his time on October 26 with another Morgan & Morgan-funded event, Positive American Youth’s sixth annual “P.A.Y.DAY.” Of his hectic, fun-filled weekend of giving back to his home city, Miller said that sometimes sleep must be sacrificed to reap the benefits of giving back to the community.
“The experience was great,” Miller said of bouncing back and forth between events. “Sometimes you have to go hard and then sleep after. To be a well-rounded person, you have to be able to juggle things.”
Highlights of the week included a concert on Monday on the campus of Morehouse College featuring performances from rappers B.O.B and Trinidad James, and a free neo-soul concert the next night at King Chapel. After a comedy show at King Chapel on Wednesday, the crowning of “Miss Spelman” was followed by the “Pandemonium” pep rally on Thursday. Friday saw the coronation of “Miss Maroon and White,” a reference to Morehouse’s colors and mascot, and finally the much-hyped “Infatuation” coronation ball later that night.
The week-long party peaked Saturday, however, with the schools’ homecoming parade and a massive tailgate sponsored by Morgan & Morgan. In addition to setting up a “hydration tent” for alums and students to stay cool, the firm passed out free t-shirts, beverage tumblers, and sunglasses. Saturday night was capped off with a step show featuring the schools’ respective fraternities and sororities, with worship services rounding off the week on Sunday.
A Morehouse College alumnus, Miller moved back to Atlanta after completing his juris doctor at St. John’s University School of Law in New York to practice with Morgan & Morgan and continue his work within the community. In addition to handling personal injury, wrongful death, and premises liability cases, Miller is active with Positive American Youth (P.A.Y.), an Atlanta organization whose goal is reinforce the importance of healthy living, positivity, and staying active among the city’s urban youth.
For Miller, the most gratifying reward from interacting with the city of Atlanta is a humbling perspective on life, a perspective that can only be gained by helping others.
“Being able to give back makes all the hard work worth it,” Miller said. “Sometimes, you can’t really see what you are doing it for, then you go out and spend the day with some kids or help feed the hungry and it puts your life into perspective. I have small problems compared to some. The least I can do is help if I’m able to.”
