German-Inspired Mardi Gras Festival Fasching Kicks Off, Nov. 16
Minden, LA (PRWEB) November 08, 2013 -- Celebrate all that is German in Minden, Louisiana at the 3rd annual Minden Fasching Fifth Season Celebration located in downtown Minden on Main Street while enjoying German cuisine, a variety of craft brews, musical performances by the Jared Mourad Band, Eurofest, and Professor Pork Chop and the Dirty Dishes, Saturday, Nov. 16 beginning at 9 a.m.
“Fasching is celebrated in Germany much like Mardi Gras, but begins on Nov. 11 at 11:11 a.m. of every year,” said Pattie Odom, Minden’s Economic/Downtown Development director.
The celebration will feature live music from two stages throughout the day, as well as inside the beer garden. Entertainment starts at 10 a.m with the Jared Mourad band followed by San Antonio native band Eurofest at 12:30 p.m. Professor Pork Chop and the Dirty Dishes will conclude the performances with a variety of swamp blues from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Also, admire artwork from local and regional artists that line the brick paved streets while browsing through specialty boutiques that sell antiques, clothing, and much more. Relish in the excitement of a German fun house “Hof Brauhouse” and visit with “Weuhnachtsmann,” also known as Santa Claus who will be making an appearance. Children can also enjoy the clowns, carnival rides, face painting, and other events throughout the weekend. The celebration will conclude with a grand fireworks finale beginning at 6 p.m.
Additionally, the City of Minden will flip the switch to illuminate thousands of Christmas lights throughout the city beginning the Louisiana Holiday Trail of Lights. Over 100 life-size nutcrackers will be on display.
The eve before the Fasching Festival, a pre-celebration carnival will be held Friday night starting at 6 p.m. with food, games, and rides for the whole family, with a Ferris wheel designed and hand painted in Germany.
Minden is located 28 miles east of Shreveport on I-20, exit 47. For more information about the festival, visit mindenfasching.com or call Pattie Odom at 318-371-4258.
