The Academy of Classical Ballet – California to Perform A Winter Wonderland at Campbell Heritage Theatre on December 15th, 2013
(PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- The Academy of Classical Ballet – California today announced the date for its annual performances of A Winter Wonderland, an original production choreographed by Academy founder Crystal Petzel. The 2013 performances will feature professional guest artists Andrea Moody (sjDANCEco, San Jose Dance Theatre, Margaret Wingrove Dance Company), Sophia Rumasuglia (Joffrey Ballet NYC, Ballet Austin), Francisco Avellan (Marin Ballet, Western Ballet), and Tim Harenburg (Huntington Academy of Dance, Wienerstaatsoper Balletschule), as well as 44 Academy dancers ranging in age from six to sixteen.
A Winter Wonderland takes place deep in the woods, just as fall is turning into a bright and glorious winter. The North Wind and the Winter Fairy, with the help of her ice sprites, blanket the land with snow and turn the lake hard with ice. As the story continues, village children frolic in the snow, a young girl gets lost in the woods, and creatures, both mysterious and magical, come to life. Local audiences have embraced A Winter Wonderland and its celebration of winter and the holiday spirit. “The story was touching and very easy to follow,” said Avril of Los Gatos. “Opening with the Winter Fairy set a very professional tone, and I really liked the pairing of seasoned dancers with the little dancers.
This heartwarming production has grown each year as it builds towards Ms. Petzel’s vision for an annual event to be enjoyed by the local community. “I wanted to create an original production that could be enjoyed by the entire family and that would become an annual tradition for all members of our community,” said Ms. Petzel. “The Campbell community has been very supportive of our school, and our performances give my dancers the opportunity to not only showcase their year-to-year development, but also to give back to the community that supports us.” Each year, the Academy provides free show tickets to foster families and other area residents who might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy a holiday performance. Academy dancers also perform adapted versions of its spring and winter performances at area schools, assisted-living and senior facilities, as well as at local community events.
