STEM Skills Are in Demand: NEF CyberLearning Announces $100,000 STEM Grant for Schools - Denver Metro Area Middle Schools Eligible
(PRWEB) November 11, 2013 -- STEM skills are in high demand in both traditional and non-traditional STEM related fields. This demand has left some employers in search of employees with STEM skills. To address the increasing demand for STEM skills, the National Education Foundation believes that early introduction to STEM will help students become well equipped with STEM skills.
The National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in STEM education, announced today that has partnered with TEKSystems and the State University of New York (SUNY) to create model world-class STEM+ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math English etc.) education programs in our nation’s schools.
This inaugural launch provides a $100,000 grant opportunity for one middle school in each of the Baltimore, Denver and Raleigh Metro areas. Any middle school with 35% or more students can apply for the grant on or before November 20, 2013 at http://www.cyberlearning.org. Awards have already been made to schools in Chicago, Dallas and Seattle.
This grant program designed by NEF and administered by SUNY provides a Total Solution System including personalized learning, stipends, learning management system, mentoring, motivation, teacher training and tech support.
The world-class STEM+ system solution is capable of advancing a student one grade level in a subject in 20-30 learning hours as documented by SUNY. All the courses are mapped to the Common Core Curriculum standards as well as state standards in all 50 states.
The grant includes a student STEM+ academy, a teacher academy and a parent academy in IT and Business as well as a tuition-free workforce development academy for employers in the community.
In addition to a world-class STEM+ academy for the students, the grant provides a Parent Academy in IT and Business, and a Teacher Professional Development Academy.
