Community of Giving: Toy Drive Donation for the Holidays
Ansonia, CT (PRWEB) November 13, 2013 -- There is nothing quite like the joy of a child opening presents on Christmas morning. But for many people, this is an increasingly rare occurrence. With economic struggles and hardships, it can be difficult to even think about getting presents for a child, let alone afford today’s toy prices.
TEAM Inc. has a solution to this for the Lower Naugatuck Valley Community. The Toys 4 Kids program, operating for over 20 years, collects toys in various locations across the Valley to be distributed to families who are facing economic hardship. As toys are collected, they are sorted into a temporary “Toy Workshop,” much like Santa’s workshop. Families then ‘purchase’ toys with “Toy Bucks” by choosing 4-5 toys for each child.
The process is reminiscent of Santa’s giving spirit, as well as provides the self-sufficiency and choice that is central to TEAM Inc.’s core ideals. TEAM Inc.’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency and well-being through participation in the community. The organization provides assistance for early childhood education, elderly services, home heating assistance, housing assistance, economic & asset building, and community engagement and involvement. Through these services, TEAM Inc. programs currently reach about 7,000 clients annually.
Spector Furniture, in Ansonia, CT, is proud to be one of these collection points where anyone can drop off any unwrapped toy between November 11, 2013 until approx the week before Christmas (December 25). Spector Furniture encourages anyone purchasing toys to think of those who are less-advantaged and to purchase an extra toy or two in order to donate to Toys 4 Kids at 385 Main St Ansonia, CT or the many other collection points around the city.
In addition to donating toys, there are other ways to help the Toys 4 Kids cause. Business owners could register as a collection point and begin asking customers to donate. This gets the word out and spreads the message of Holiday cheer and giving. TEAM Inc. also accepts volunteers for the sorting and distribution of toys - a much needed donation of time and energy.
Spector Furniture has been a family owned furniture store since 1890. They are committed to the Lower Naugatuck Valley Community’s well-being and prosperity. Being able to participate in the Toys 4 Kids donation drive is a normal extension of their business values: fair, honest, open, and part of the broader community. They do not just want to sell furniture, but want to make a home, community and all, a better place.
