Hardscape North America Installer Championship Spotlights Ability and Speed

The 2013 Hardscape North America Installer Championship, October 24 and 25, at the Kentucky Exposition Center, Louisville, presented fast-paced demonstrations of excellence in the hardscape industry.

This new event at the Hardscape North America tradeshow tested and recognized the skill, dedication and passion of hardscape contractors from Canada, Australia and the United States. Each of the eight competing teams was challenged on their understanding of industry best practices and guidelines, safety, quality and craftsmanship in a race against the clock. This championship determined the best of the best in the hardscape industry!

The competition had 3 rounds during which each team was required to use the provided clay pavers, concrete pavers and wall blocks.

  •     During the preliminary rounds, each team was required to construct an 8’ x 10’ patio within 60 minutes that included a soldier course and an L-shaped seat wall, according to a detailed drawing.
  •     During the semi-finals, each team was asked to construct an 8’ x 8’ patio area within 60 minutes that included a seat wall and an inlay of their own design.
  •     During the final round, each team was asked to construct a patio within 90 minutes using all three materials provided based on their own creative design.

To help teams get started, at the beginning of each round the compacted gravel base was provided.

The Decorative Paving Company received $1,000.00, an iQ360 14” masonry saw with fully-integrated dust collection plus accessories (valued at $5,348), a trophy, recognition in various media and bragging rights for a full year.
