Local Doctor Anton Broms, MD, Retires After 37 Years
Beaverton, OR (PRWEB) November 13, 2013 -- Women’s Healthcare Associates, LLC, an obstetrics, gynecology, midwifery, maternal-fetal medicine, and genetics practice, announces the retirement of Dr. Anton Broms, MD.
Dr. Broms is a Portland native and has lived in Oregon all his life, except when he attended college and medical school. Dr. Broms attended Stanford University and then received his medical degree and obstetrics and gynecology specialty training at Baylor College of Medicine.
Beyond enjoying all aspects of the obstetrics and gynecology field, he also found a calling in helping women with menopausal issues. Dr. Broms took an educational angle with his patients, encouraging them to understand all of the issues in order to fully participate in the decision-making process, while at the same time seeking to expand his own knowledge of medicine and new developments in the field.
“As doctors, we need to be humble,” he says. “Our knowledge base expands but the things we don’t know expand even faster. In practice, we should always be asking if there’s a better way to do it. Keep learning, be skeptical, be a scientist. That would be my advice to other doctors and those pursuing the field.”
As he reflects on his career, Dr. Broms said there were two standout moments. The first was delivering three sets of twins in a 24-hour period. The second also involved delivering a set of twins—one of whom has recently joined WHA as a new physician. In that sense, his practice has come almost full circle.
“During the course of one’s career, we consider ourselves lucky if we get to practice medicine with someone of Anton Broms’ intellect, judgment and humility,” said Women’s Healthcare Associates physician and partner Allard “Bud” Conger, “WHA has been very lucky indeed. He will be missed.”
Dr. Broms says he plans to spend more time with friends, his granddaughter and being more active outdoors during retirement.
