Early next month, WPL Publishing will sponsor a webinar to help various professionals within the construction community pinpoint the best options for making their buildings more energy efficient through "retro-commissioning," also known as "existing building commissioning" or "re-commissioning."

The webinar will present the fundamental strategies for understanding retro-commissioning. The 90-minute event will focus on the systematic process used for understanding the operation of the building’s major energy-using systems, options for optimizing energy performance, and a plan to achieve energy savings. With an emphasis on the commercial-building sector, participants will learn about developing a commissioning plan, conducting the investigation and analysis phase, documenting energy-use breakdowns, listing operating problems, and identifying capital improvements. To register for the webinar, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. (EST), visit http://tinyurl.com/qdcvy2f.

In addition, webinar participants will review appropriate strategies to implement no- or low-cost operational improvements, staff training, and the updating of a building-operating plan. This program is ideal for anyone seeking focused training on commissioning activities during the occupancy phase of the building life cycle.

During the program, entitled "Maximizing Value in Retro-Commissioned Buildings," webinar attendees will learn how to do the following:

  • Identify options for optimizing energy performance and enhancing building operations.
  • Understand how to develop a commissioning plan to achieve energy savings.
  • Assess the steps in the investigation and analysis phase of retro-commissioning.
  • Review energy-use breakdowns.
  • Identify capital-improvement opportunities.
  • Review appropriate strategies to implement no- or low-cost operational improvements.
  • Evaluate staff training options.
  • Update the building operating plan.

Addressing attendees will be Kelly Gearhart, founder and principal with the international consulting firm Triple Green Building Group LLC.

With locations in the San Francisco Bay area; Atlanta; Savannah, Ga.; and Sophia, Bulgaria, Triple Green provides expertise to design, construction, and building-operations professionals; governments; corporate entities; and non-profit organizations seeking approaches to building and development through sustainable project planning and design, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consulting and administration, education, and training. Triple Green is a national member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a sustainability education developer, and one of few international USGBC authorized delivery partners for the LEED core curriculum.

Following Ms. Gearhart’s presentation, there will be an interactive 10-to-15 minute question-and-answer session addressing relevant topics.

Webinar tuition is based on location, not number of participants, so each registration site can have multiple participants for one low price. To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/qdcvy2f.
