Resource Furniture Awards Scholarships to Riders at Pony Power Therapies
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- Resource Furniture is proud to award funding to Pony Power Therapies, a non-profit organization that offers effective equine-assisted activities to adults and children facing mental, emotional and physical challenges, including veterans and their families. The financial support of Resource Furniture will allow recipients to enroll in Pony Power’s programs.
Each scholarship was awarded based upon financial need and will allow these riders to enroll for a full semester at Pony Power Therapies. In addition to the full semester therapeutic riding scholarships, the support from Resource Furniture, named “the biggest retailer in the multi-functional space in the U.S.” by The Wall Street Journal, will offer individuals a spot in the Stable Insights Program. Led by a licensed clinical social worker, this initiative utilizes horses in ground activities designed to enable emotional growth and behavioral change.
“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Resource Furniture,” said Lauren Cotton, Director of Development at Pony Power Therapies. “These funds are helping to bring the proven physical, social and emotional benefits of equine-assisted activities to children and adults who would otherwise be unable to access them.”
What began with a single horse and four riders has now grown to over 200 participants every semester at Pony Power Therapies. It is the only full-service facility in Bergen County, New Jersey, that provides equine-assisted activities for special needs populations. Pony Power has a proven track record of improving clients’ flexibility, balance and muscle strength as well as fostering feelings of confidence, self-esteem, independence and pride.
For Resource Furniture, this latest venture comes as part of a long list of recent projects in non-profit and academic arenas. Resource Furniture has sponsored and collaborated in designing a course at Georgia Tech, as well as exhibitions at the Museum of the City of New York, Greenbuild, U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, Chicago Museum of Science & Industry and Design Museum Boston.
