Billions Could Be Paid in Hip Replacement Lawsuit
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY (PRWEB) November 13, 2013 -- Every year, hundreds of Americans go in for hip replacement surgery. When something goes wrong and the device used to replace a person’s hip is defective, serious complications can occur. That is the case for thousands of people impacted by Stryker, Depuy ASR, Zimmer, Wright, and Biomet hip implants. As a hip replacement mass tort law firm, the attorneys at Gray & White understand the impact a defective hip implant can have on a person. That’s why they’re helping victims get the compensation they need to recover from this serious injury.
Currently, there are hundreds of lawsuits pending in a number of Kentucky hip implant mass tort cases after people fell ill following a metal-on-metal hip implant surgery (1). Metal poisoning impacted many of these people, which occurred after metal debris was released into the blood stream. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the friction from the metal-on-metal implant causes some components to shed and accumulate in the body (2). As a result, serious neurological issues can occur.
Now, each hip implant manufacturer faces mass tort lawsuits that could cost them billions of dollars. Johnson & Johnson, makers of the DePuy ASR hip implant is estimated to settle for around $3 billion, a Bloomberg report states (3). The Wall Street Journal reported that the Stryker lawsuit is estimated to settle for between $700 million to over $1 billion (4). The lawsuits for these—Zimmer, Wright, and Biomet—all equate to significant money being paid to the victims injured by these metal-on-metal hip implants.
“Our hearts go out to the people living a daily struggle after being subjected to pain and worry due to their defective hip implant. As medical product liability lawyers in Kentucky, we aim to help these people get a settlement or verdict that covers their treatment expenses and compensates them for their pain,” commented Matthew White, Managing Partner at Gray & White Law.
The lawyers at Gray & White are some of the few in the area who have had great success handling mass tort cases in both state and federal court. The team has recovered millions of dollars in compensation for victims of defective medical products in both state and federal courts. They have also been approved and appointed to lead counsel positions by judges in mass tort litigation.
