PA Bar Association Certifies Attorneys at Calhoon & Associates as Workers’ Compensation Specialists
Harrisburg, PA (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- The Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Law Section has certified Attorneys Thomas Cook and Ronald Calhoon, of Harrisburg-based Calhoon & Associates, as specialists in the area of Workers’ Compensation. Workers’ Compensation is the first and only certification granted by the Pennsylvania Bar. Applicants are required to meet strict criteria in order to receive this distinction.
Both attorneys successfully completed the certification process by submitting a variety of documents proving that at least 50% of the legal practice is in the specialty field of workers’ compensation. In addition, applicants must prove that they have practiced in the field for more than five years, and that they have actively participated in Mandatory Continuing Legal Education in workers’ compensation law and related fields. Finally, applicants must pass a certification examination that focuses on workers’ compensation law, rules, regulations and leading case law.
“The application process to take the exam makes it clear from the outset that the certification is for those lawyers who have expertise in the workers’ compensation field,” said John Bagnato, chair of the Certification Committee, in a May 20 Pennsylvania Bar Association press release.
Only those attorneys obtaining this certification are permitted to claim to be “certified as a specialist in the practice of workers’ compensation law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Section on Workers’ Compensation Law as authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.”
Attorney Cook has 29 years of experience representing injured workers, and Attorney Calhoon has 24 years of experience fighting for injured workers throughout the Commonwealth of PA.
