Team American Chunker set a new long distance World Record for launching a pumpkin at near supersonic speed on November 1st 2013. With an amazing shot of 4694.68 feet, American Chunker became the first air cannon team from New England to achieve the longest shot in history at the 28th annual WCPCA World Championship.
Team American Chunker was established in November of 2009 and is a massive 100 ft+ long pneumatic cannon that shoots pumpkins for long distance. Since its inception, the team’s goal has been to win the World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association (WCPCA) world championship held annually in Bridgeville DE. In their first four years competing, team AC has placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the world championships (out of 120+ teams, from around the USA and overseas), and boasts the competitions best average and cumulative distance statistics for all four years. The event this year was filmed by the Discovery & Science Channel and will air on Thanksgiving night at 8 p.m.
The team’s philosophy is to work hard, do their homework, have some fun along the way, and stop at nothing to win. Currently there are over 30 team members involved in The American Chunker, with representatives from numerous areas of Science, Agriculture, Engineering, Fabrication, Construction, Weather Forecasting, Ballistics, Radar, Thermal Imaging, and other disciplines. The team is currently also supported by some innovative and pioneering sponsors such as FLIR thermal imaging, Ring Power Cat, D.R Guilbeault, Bingham Lumber, and Cape Ann Brewery.
American Chunker has taken pumpkin launching to a whole new level with their application of high end analytical techniques, engineering, and unique approach to agriculture. Premier “Punkin Chunkin Team” and cutting edge are perfect descriptions for this unmatched group of team members. Team American Chunker looks forward to continuing to raise the bar and expand the scope of the sport with new horizons and milestones in the near future.
