Station X has created GenePool, a new software platform that allows medical researchers to solve complex biological and clinical problems. The GenePool software-as-a-service platform empowers researchers to analyze large clinical populations and expedite diagnostic development and research into genetic diseases. With GenePool, researchers in Pharma and Biotech companies can shave months off their discovery and development time.

Many promising new drugs, especially in cancer, are being developed for patient- specific molecular targets in parallel with diagnostics that identify those patients. Developing these diagnostics from next-generation DNA sequencing data requires the ability to manage, analyze and manipulate petabytes of genomic data from potentially thousands of patients. GenePool’s cloud-based solution facilitates this process by helping companies securely manage and analyze their clinical and genetic data, and communicate their data and results in a unified way across their organizations and with external collaborators. Tod Klingler, Station X’s Chief Scientific Officer, said "Using GenePool can significantly reduce cost and time to market for new biomarker-based diagnostics."

GenePool represents what is possible by bringing the benefits of scalable cloud storage and compute to the domain of genomic medicine. The Station X team has considerable expertise in bioinformatics, genomics and diagnostic development and recognized that working with leading IT partners would be the way to successfully achieve a robust and compelling product. To build and run this software, Station X partnered with OC4 to build a solution utilizing the Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. AWS provides elastic compute capability in the cloud and is the platform on which GenePool runs. OC4 worked as an extension of the Station X team to ensure that the application runs securely and meets customer needs. With the help of OC4 (http://www.oc4.com), Station X has created a very cost effective offering. "Working with OC4 and AWS provided us the ability to go to market and deliver a platform capable of processing genomic analysis at population scale in ways not previously possible. OC4’s enterprise cloud experience and AWS’ complete set of on-demand cloud computing services, provided Station X a secure scalable foundation capable of delivering the availability, security and elasticity required by our customers," said Tod Klingler.

GenePool has been designed to perform these analyses, within an easy-to-use, intuitive and highly graphical interface. AWS’ on-demand infrastructure and OC4’s technical expertise and "ever-fresh™" infrastructure approach enables GenePool to seamlessly handle the extreme real-time demands of customers, accelerating their development cycles not otherwise cost effective or possible without the on demand compute provided by AWS. Thomas Broudy, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Molecular Response, LLC, commented "We believe that the security and scalability of AWS provides us with significant advantages, particularly when accessing genomic data through Station X GenePool software. We can quickly identify which cancer models are the most appropriate for further screening." GenePool is at the forefront of the juncture of computing and genomics. By working with cloud computing companies and infusing the deep bioinformatics and genomic experience of the Station X team, GenePool is creating new possibilities for Genomic Research.
