NuvaRing Blood Clot Lawsuit Filed By Alonso Krangle LLP on Behalf of 31-Year-Old Woman Who Allegedly Suffered A Deep Vein Thrombosis
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- A NuvaRing blood clot lawsuit was filed by Alonso Krangle LLP on behalf of a 31-year-old NuvaRing user who allegedly suffered right leg deep vein thrombosis due to side effects of the birth control device in November 2013 in U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey. According to the complaint, NuvaRing is a vaginal birth control ring marketed by Merck & Co., as well as other defendants, and promoted as just as effective as oral birth control pills but more convenient.
The NuvaRing blood clot lawsuit contends, the plaintiff began using NuvaRing in January 2010. The plaintiff began to experience pain in her right leg in December 2010. She went to the hospital where testing showed she had developed deep vein thrombosis in that leg. She was admitted to the hospital and treated with anticoagulation therapy. Her physician placed her on the anticoagulate drug warfarin upon discharge. (Case No. 2:13-cv-05685-SDW-MCA)
Alonso Krangle LLP, who is also representing other women in NuvaRing lawsuits, continues to offer free NuvaRing blood clot lawsuit evaluations to victims of alleged NuvaRing side effects. According to the NuvaRing blood clot lawsuit, the plaintiff accused the defendants of failing to provide adequate warnings concerning the serious side effects of NuvaRing, including an increased risk of blood clots, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis when compared to oral contraceptives. The NuvaRing lawsuit further alleges that the NuvaRing birth control device exposes women to a higher amount of hormones than other forms of birth control, which increases the serious risk of blood clots that can cause heart attack, stroke, and death.
According to court records, more than one thousand lawsuits have been filed across the country alleging that using NuvaRing exposes women to an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. At least 1,370 federally filed NuvaRing lawsuits have been centralized in multidistrict litigation currently underway in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri (In re NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, MDL 1964) and at least 200 more NuvaRing lawsuits have been consolidated in Bergen County Superior Court, New Jersey. (In re: NuvaRing Litigation, BER-L-3081-09)
Recent studies have linked NuvaRing use to an increased risk of blood clots. In fact, a 2011 study conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that NuvaRing posed a 56 percent higher risk of blood clots over birth control pills. Also, a study published in the May 10, 2012 edition of the British Medical Journal found that women who used the NuvaRing device are 6.5 times more likely to develop a serious blood clot than women who do not use hormone-based birth control.
