Olin Brass Elevates Howard McCready to General Manager at Somers Thin Strip
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- In the latest management move at one of its top-performing business units, Olin Brass announced the promotion of Howard McCready to the position of General Manager at Somers Thin Strip in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Olin Brass Specialty Products President John Moritz, made the announcement on September 25th. The Specialty Products group includes Somers as well as Fineweld Tube, Fabricated Products, and all of Olin Brass’s international operations.
The announcement comes on the heels of Olin Brass parent GBC Metals’ appointment of former Somers GM Kevin Bense as President of A.J. Oster, another major GBC company.
Both promotions were well-earned, Moritz said, pointing to Somers’ excellent performance in recent years and the key roles both Bense and McCready have played in it.
Since joining the company as Supply Chain Manager in November of 2011, McCready's work has been instrumental to the success of Somers Thin Strip. According to Moritz, McCready has driven significant improvements in on-time performance, customer service, procurement, and inventory management at the Waterbury facility. His noteworthy accomplishments include the creation and implementation of a new packaging system as well as scrap handling and specialized supplier inventory programs.
Prior to joining Somers, he compiled an impressive track record in materials management and executive level supply chain roles at Kanzaki Specialty Papers, Hazen Paper Company, and Ludlow Technical Products. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management from the University of Massachusetts, and earlier this year was awarded his Master Certificate in Supply Chain Management and Logistics from Michigan State University.
In his new role, McCready will be looking to spearhead ongoing development initiatives in all phases of Somers’ business, including safety excellence, commercial growth, and continuous operational improvement. He brings a formidable management team to the task, including Human Resources Manager Gloria DesRoches, Commercial Director Sean Hosey, Plant Controller Kevin Kucenski, and Plant Manager Wade Rice.
A subsidiary of Global Brass and Copper Holdings, Inc., Olin Brass is a world leader in its own right, one of the oldest, most innovative and diverse producers of copper alloys and products in the world. With six domestic operating units and an international group serving Asia and the Pacific Rim, the organization is poised to maintain and expand its presence in copper markets worldwide.
