$4 Billion Settlement Reportedly Agreed to on DePuy Hip Implants

An article that appeared in The New York Times on November 13, 2013, written by Barry Meier, a reporter for the paper, indicates that a tentative settlement offered by Johnson & Johnson would provide payments to hip replacement patients who have needed the orthopedic device removed and an alternative device replaced.
The article states that the payments are expected to average $350,000 per patient, though the actual figure will be impacted by a number of variables. A separate article found on Bloomberg’s Businessweek website reported that there are more than 7,500 lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy orthopedic devices unit currently on file in federal and state court that would be resolved by the tentative agreement.
The reports indicate that the attorneys involved expect an official statement will be released by Johnson & Johnson soon.
