North-West College Campus Transforms More Than Student’s Lives
West Covina, CA (PRWEB) November 15, 2013 -- On October 10, 1966, 43 students in two rooms began the first classes of North-West College. Fast forward to today, and you wouldn’t recognize it. What once served as a paint warehouse has now been transformed to a modern looking campus environment housing over 500 students of the career college.
If you lived or worked in West Covina in the 60’s, you might recall the new college located next to the newly developed I-10 Freeway. Soon the college occupied another building as the student population grew along with the success stories of graduates. Before long, North-West College was a landmark in West Covina, with its big digital billboard lighting the skies, while the college illuminated its students inside.
Today, students are greeted with a beautiful new learning environment as they attend classes and train for new careers in the medical field. Two of the buildings have been modernized inside and out. The classrooms and labs have been elevated to standards that many medical facilities would envy. The $750,000 renovation project left no stone unturned. In fact, even the freeway message board was redone. The complete remodel includes the main building at 2101 W. Garvey Avenue North, with nearly 10,000 sq. ft. and the newly named Marsha Fuerst Hall, at 2121 W. Garvey Avenue North, a 8,000 sq. ft. building which was originally built by the founder and matriarch of North-West College.
North-West College was founded by Marsha Fuerst. Mrs. Fuerst’s family has been involved in the allied health field since the early 1950's. North-West College continues to be owned and operated by Mrs. Fuerst’s son, Mitchell Fuerst. The Fuersts' passion for career education and their desire to provide high quality, relevant training is one of the guiding principles of the college.
Many people were supportive of the remodel, including neighbors of the school, as well as the City of West Covina’s Redevelopment, Planning and Building Departments. Alumni who graduated decades ago have stopped into the college to share their pride in the new look of the college. Most importantly, the current students love the modernization of their campus.
“The renovations to North-West College were so awesome!” says student, Roxie Temple, “…The North-West College staff and faculty made sure no student was inconvenienced by the on-going construction on the campus. When I see the college from the freeway, it’s so beautiful; it puts a smile on my face. It also beautified the community as well…The staff and instructors work diligently and as a team to ensure every student has the tools to succeed. The support is very genuine and I appreciate that. North-West College is truly the pinnacle of success!”
