"Gloaming" Kickstarter Series Goes International
Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) November 14, 2013 -- When Helen Stringer, the award-winning filmmaker and author of the middle-grade fantasy books, SPELLBINDER, THE MIDNIGHT GATE, and THE BLOOD BINDING, and science fiction novel, PARADIGM, decided to create a new kind of ghost story in the fast paced, paranormal scifi web series THE GLOAMING, she found cast and crew not only across the country, but all the way around the world.
“This is where social media really comes into its own,” says Stringer. “I’ve worked with nearly all these people before, but since then they’ve scattered across the globe. Enter Facebook…and suddenly it’s as if we’re all in the same room again.”
The story for THE GLOAMING was originally intended as another book, but Stringer’s experience with making the trailer for her latest novel, PARADIGM, reignited her love for film. “I’d forgotten how much I loved not only the process of taking the pictures in my head and actually presenting them to people’s eyeballs, but also the teamwork and camaraderie of filmmaking,” she said.
Stringer’s co-producer, Josef Richardson, worked at LucasArts Entertainment Company near San Francisco for eight years, where he specialized in computer generated effects. He now lives in Baltimore where he freelances in VFX and design. “We had lost touch,” explains Stringer, “But discovered that distance was no impediment to creativity when he created the cover for PARADIGM. That was what made me realize how much can be achieved via social media, the cloud, and good old-fashioned email!” it wasn’t long before more people came on board: THE GLOAMING’s co-writer is Dave Jackson, a screenwriting professor and musician, who lives in Liverpool, England, as does former DC and Marvel artist Bob Wakelin, who is designing the limited edition poster that is one of the rewards; and publicity is being provided by two Polish sisters, one of whom lives in Hereford, in the UK, and the other in Malta.
Co-writer, Jackson, also wrote and recorded, "Saltspell Man," the theme song for the series in a studio in Liverpool. He emailed the audio file to Stringer in Redwood City, California, and she then created the video that can be seen on THE GLOAMING Kickstarter page.
“The whole process is similar to funding via Kickstarter,” says Stringer. “People who love the story and want to see the series made, coming together from all over the world and bringing their talent, imagination and energy. It’s really wonderful.”
Currently the production schedule and shooting script are complete. All the locations have been identified, the central characters have been cast and key production personnel are on board. The team has definitely gone far and what is left is financing, which must be in place before bringing the extraordinary story to the audience. The production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in February 2014, and will last for 10 days.
Why Fund this Project?
The funds contributed will be used to pay for the production of all six episodes, as Stringer explains, “The money that we are trying to raise will pay for the production, plus the rewards that all our backers so richly deserve. The budget is based on a detailed breakdown of the script and includes paying cast and crew, location fees, permits, insurance, equipment, and everything else that is needed for a top quality production.”
