Urban Community Outreach Drop-In-Center Helps More Homeless in Long Beach, Thanks to Support From No More Poverty
(PRWEB) November 15, 2013 -- The Long Beach-based Urban Community Outreach thanks No More Poverty and its cofounders, Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi, for their sponsorship. Urban Community Outreach serves the homeless community by offering meals, medical assistance, temporary shelter, and other life-stabilizing services.
“We assist the homeless community with their basic human needs, and offer a way to ‘stay in touch’ with family, possible jobs leads and housing, etc. We need all of the help we can get,” says Arlene Mercer, Executive Director of Urban Community Outreach. “We are so thankful to No More Poverty for their support. We hope that, with their help, we can continue to help the underserved in the local community for years to come.”
Urban Community Outreach (http://www.urbancommunityoutreach.org) serves the real-world needs of people looking to improve the quality of their lives. In addition to providing temporary shelter, regular meals, and essential personal care items, the economically disadvantaged are given access to a computer lab where they can search for permanent housing and employment online. They are also provided with document scanning services to upload important papers, saving them within their email so that they always have access in case the originals are lost. A registered nurse helps by monitoring blood pressure and blood sugar levels, caring for inflicted wounds, and providing counsel regarding depression, and addiction issues. Clothing and camping supplies are distributed so that sleeping on the streets is a little warmer and more comfortable.
No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers, Dr. Michael Omidi and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas.
