Louisville, KY (PRWEB) November 15, 2013
Each year, people across the United States have hip replacement surgery. When they do, they trust that the implant put into their bodies will enable them to regain the mobility they lost after a serious injury. For thousands of people, this was allegedly not the case when they received a DePuy ASR metal-on-metal hip replacement made by Johnson & Johnson. This hip implant allegedly caused serious injury in many recipients after metal pieces shed into their blood stream (1). The medical device lawyers at Gray & White represent many of the people allegedly impacted by this hip implant, and know how life changing these injuries can be. That’s why they’re working hard to help people who were allegedly injured by the DePuy ASR hip implant get the compensation they need to heal after an injury.
There have been thousands of lawsuits filed by people who received these implants (2). Now, Johnson & Johnson, the maker of the DePuy ASR hip implant, is expected to be close to settling on these lawsuits. It was previously estimated that the settlement would be near $3 Billion (3); however, Bloomberg now estimates the settlement could be close to $4 Billion. This would equate to approximately $300,000 to $350,000 for each plaintiff represented in the lawsuit (4).
The injuries allegedly sustained by the thousands of people who filed lawsuits are life changing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration points out on their website that the friction caused by having metal on metal in a joint implant can cause some components to come loose and disperse into the body resulting in serious neurological problems (5).
“We’ve spoken with some of the people who have allegedly been impacted by the DePuy ASR hip implant defects and understand just how painful their injuries can be. It is our goal to help those who may have been impacted by this hip implant get a settlement that will help cover the treatments they need, as well as compensation for the suffering they’ve endured.” commented Matthew White, Managing Partner at Gray & White.
