Getting your flu shot while doing other shopping makes sense and you can’t get much more convenient than your local pharmacy.

InCrowd, the only provider of real time market intelligence for the pharmaceutical industry, has released data indicating a potential increase in flu shots provided by local retail pharmacists. 90% of the surveyed pharmacists identified convenience as the main benefit of getting a flu shot at a retail pharmacy.

To help the public prepare for the upcoming flu season, InCrowd asked 150 retail pharmacists from across the United States a series of questions regarding the 2013 - 2014 flu season. Questions highlighted why people don’t get flu shots, the benefits and drawbacks of receiving flu shots at a local retail pharmacy and predictions regarding the severity of the current flu season.

Nearly half of the pharmacists surveyed (44%) saw no drawbacks to providing flu shots at local retail pharmacies. Convenience was cited as the main benefit and a large reason for the increase in people receiving flu shots at their local pharmacy. Other convenience factors included easy access, no appointment needed and minimal wait time.

“The results weren't surprising,” said Dr. Diane Hayes, Co-Founder and President of InCrowd, Inc. “People are busy, convenience is important. Getting your flu shot while doing other shopping makes sense and you can’t get much more convenient than your local pharmacy.”

76% of the surveyed pharmacists predict this will be an average flu season, with just 1% predicting a severe flu season. A potential increase in flu shots due to the convenience of pharmacy administration could play a role in the severity of this and future flu seasons.
