Fern Grotto Inn Announces Botanical Gardens as Visitors’ Favorite North Shore Attraction
Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii (PRWEB) November 18, 2013 -- Fern Grotto Inn, a collection of vacation rental cottages in Kapaa, Kauai, recently carried out a survey of its guests, asking them for their favorite North Shore attraction. Almost unanimously, the survey participants chose the Princeville Botanical Gardens, a privately owned and operated tropical paradise in Princeville, Kauai.
“The gardens are a real treasure,” says Paul Juma, who owns and operates Fern Grotto Inn. “Kauai is extremely picturesque as a whole, but this may be one of the few places where human involvement has actually enhanced the natural beauty of an area. Everywhere you look, there’s lush, verdant plant growth. It’s not to be missed.”
Tucked away in the jungle, on former cattle land, the gardens began in 2004 as a hobby for owners Bill and Lucinda Robertson. Today, the gardens are home to hundreds of plant species, some native to Kauai and others brought over as “canoe” plants.
Since 2010, the gardens opened to the public three days a week, and visitors must call ahead for reservations. Two guided tours are offered—one two-and-a-half-hour tour and one three-hour tour. Both include a complimentary 30-minute chocolate tasting, and the longer tour also includes fruit and honey tasting.
The Princeville Botanical Gardens are located less than 45 minutes away from Fern Grotto Inn, which makes for a convenient half-day excursion. If you prefer to make a day of it, spend the rest of the day on one of Princeville’s popular beaches, or pick up a few souvenirs at the area shops.
Fern Grotto Inn, based in Kapaa, Hawaii, has six vacation rental cottages on the east side of Kauai. Fern Grotto Inn prides itself on providing luxury accommodations for guests who want an authentic Kauai experience.
