Jill Milan Introduces ‘Lucky’ Pendant to Benefit Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue
San Francisco (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Jill Milan®, a provider of designer Italian handbags, today announced its first jewelry offering as part of a fundraising effort to support Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue, a non-profit organization which rescues at-risk thoroughbreds from slaughter. The "Lucky" pendant, made of sterling silver, is named for a horse recently rescued by SCTR and net proceeds from its sales will help defray costs of care and rehabilitation for Lucky and other rescued horses.
"We are so pleased that our first jewelry item will support the great work that the volunteers at SCTR do for these horses," said Jill Milan founder and CEO Jill Fraser. "It is unfortunate so many of these fine animals end up in unsafe situations. As someone who has owned Thoroughbreds myself, I feel a personal connection to horses and am grateful to SCTR for the work it does and happy to be able to help in even a small way."
The Lucky pendant was designed by a leading California designer of luxury jewelry and features a horse’s head in profile. Made in Florence, Italy, of sterling silver, the Lucky pendant is available in limited release and retails for $150. It is available for purchase online at http://sctbrescue.org/The_Lucky_Pendant.html. Net proceeds support SCTR.
"Lucky is a thoroughbred we rescued a few weeks ago from a former owner who had been using him for tripping, a practice which entails roping a horse repeatedly until he falls," said Caroline Betts, founder of Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue. "This practice frequently results in catastrophic – and often lethal – injuries. In this case, Lucky had severe injuries to his chest and legs, which require ongoing, and expensive, veterinary care."
SCTR rescues Thoroughbreds of all ages with a primary goal of rescuing horses at livestock and "low-end" auctions which sell horses for the value of their meat. SCTR currently has 25 Thoroughbreds under care, ranging in age from 4 to 23 years. These horses, which as racing prospects typically sold at prestigious yearling sales for amounts exceeding $100,000, often sell at livestock auctions for as little as $185.
