Local deals and rewards company, Grapeword, just kicked off its first ever Charity Challenge and announced the participants: A Wish for Wendy, Operation Celebration, and Beautiful Beyond the Pain. Each cause must design a t-shirt representing their mission and sell the most by December 13th to walk away with up to $5,000 from Grapeword.

Last month, Grapeword set out to find three of the most deserving local causes for what it's calling the "Charity Challenge". The challenge: design a t-shirt representing their mission and sell the most by December 13th. The prize: in addition to proceeds from t-shirt sales and a minimum $500 donation, the winner will walk away with an extra $2,500 courtesy of Grapeword, $5,000 if at least 1,000 t-shirts are sold.

"The response on social media was incredible. There are a lot of deserving causes in Atlanta," said Grapeword CEO Paul Nichols. "We hope to do this for a long time to come, but we feel incredibly fortunate to be working with these three causes on our first major campaign." The three causes are: A Wish for Wendy, Operation Celebration, and Beautiful Beyond the Pain. Each one of them tugs at the heart strings. It's creating a bit of a heartstring tug of war as the community rallies behind the causes.

Grapeword kicked off t-shirt sales Wednesday, November 13th, and they're off to strong start with sales pouring in from all over the city. "The Atlanta community loves to give back, and we're just happy to be a part of it," said Nichols. Grapeword is based in Atlanta and has always made supporting local causes a top priority, but they're stepping up their game with the Charity Challenge. And Grapeword isn't shy about letting you know that they're benefiting from all of the exposure. "Whenever we can spend our marketing dollars by supporting the local community, we jump on it!" Nichols continued. "We can either advertise ourselves directly, or spend that money through local businesses and causes and make a difference at the same time."

When all is said and done, Grapeword plans to hold a check presentation party to crown the winner on Friday, December 13th with all of the t-shirt buyers invited. From the looks of it, the turnout might be a big one.

More about the causes:

A Wish for Wendy

Andy Lipman never met his older sister Wendy. Just sixteen days after her birth, she died from complications of cystic fibrosis. Three years later Andy was born, like Wendy - with cystic fibrosis. While the grim prognosis in 1973 projected that he would not live to become a teen, today Andy is an active adult and sports enthusiast who works tirelessly to increase awareness about living with cystic fibrosis and to support efforts to find a cure. In 2006 Andy and his family formed A Wish for Wendy and have raised nearly $2 million dollars in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with their annual softball tournament.

Operation Celebration

Operation Celebration started in 2010 when founder Shantel Khleif took the $35 in her pocket and headed outside one cold Chicago day to buy as many goods as possible to feed families for the holidays. In 2012 Shantel moved to Atlanta and was able to create the full-blown operation she had always envisioned. This year Operation Celebration's Operation Christmas hopes to raise enough money to create over 500 holiday baskets for local Atlanta families.

Beautiful Beyond the Pain

Beautiful Beyond the Pain was created by the Davidson family in honor of Alex Davidson, a beautiful 20 year old woman who is dying from complications of Crohn’s Disease. With a prognosis of less than a year, Alex currently lives in the Johns Creek area with her family. They are cherishing every remaining day they have together. Alex and her family are truly inspirational with an amazingly positive outlook life. Beautiful Beyond the Pain raises funds to send underprivileged children with medical complications to Camp Oasis as well as all the medical camps sponsored by Camp Twin Lakes.

About Grapeword

Grapeword is an Atlanta based deals and rewards company. Much like other deal services they list deals and rewards for merchants, but that's where the similarities end. With Grapeword, local businesses create and control their own offers. With no contract to worry about, merchants are free to get creative and find out what works for them. Meanwhile, consumers get to enjoy deals without the hassles of prepaid vouchers or email spam. Grapeword brings merchants and consumers together in a way that works for everyone, and so far the community is loving it.
