Safer Buildings Coalition Appoints Alan Perdue as Executive Director
Greensboro, NC (PRWEB) November 20, 2013 -- The Safer Buildings Coalition (SBC) is proud to announce that Alan Perdue, a public safety veteran and pioneer, will lead the organization’s mission as executive director. The non-profit mission of SBC is to provide advocacy and education related to indoor communication issues, and bring awareness to solutions that will enhance indoor communications capabilities during emergencies for the general public and public-safety first responders.
Chief Perdue joins SBC after more than 36 years of public service, beginning as a volunteer firefighter and progressing through the ranks to director of emergency services in Guilford County, NC. A credentialed chief fire officer and fire marshal, Chief Perdue currently serves on several state and national committees including Fire and Life Safety Section's International Director on the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Board of Directors.
“Having spent my entire career working in and with various facets of public safety, I am acutely aware of the very real issues our first responders confront on a daily basis with indoor public safety communications,” said Alan Perdue, executive director, SBC. “I am excited to be taking the reins of SBC and look forward to partnering with key stakeholders across various industries to raise awareness of the problem that will in turn lead to solutions that make it safer for building occupants and first responders."
To expand the organization’s reach and influence, leading companies and organizations within the wireless and public safety communities are being invited to join SBC as charter members. The vision at the core of SBC is to create safer buildings that possess advanced indoor public safety communications systems.
“Public safety is in SOLiD’s DNA, and we are proud to demonstrate our commitment as a founding member of the Safer Buildings Coalition,” said Seth Buechley, president, SOLiD and founding member of SBC. “With Alan at the helm, we are confident SBC will have tremendous impact as an unwavering advocate for reliable indoor public safety communications.”
SBC’s activities will include the education of key stakeholders on solutions and opportunities to implement mission-critical indoor communications systems to provide first responders with detailed information. SBC will also advocate for the widespread adoption of municipal codes related to indoor communications by sharing model ordinances, protocols for testing, and best-practices on system design and implementation.
“We owe a great deal to our first responders and public-safety officials. The Safer Building Coalition is meeting that commitment by developing a roadmap and solutions to ensure in-building radio coverage is available during an emergency,” said Chief Jeff Johnson (Ret.), CEO Western Fire Chiefs Association and Past President of the IAFC and a nationally recognized expert in emergency communications.
