Red Shirt Entertainment Announces Bosnian War as Next Focus for “Remembrance Project”
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 21, 2013 -- After four highly acclaimed performances that focused on the Holocaust, Rwandan genocide, the conflict in Darfur, and Native American “Trail of Tears,” Red Shirt Entertainment’s Remembrance Project is returning with another performance, this time focusing on Eastern Europe. The upcoming production will feature a reenactment of the “Ethnic Cleansing Campaign” in Bosnia, in which Bosnian Muslims were killed or expelled by the Army of the Republika Srpska between 1992 and 1995. The performance will take place on Monday, December 9th at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York’s East Village.
“When embarking upon this installment of the Remembrance Project I really wanted to touch upon something that the average person knows little about,” said Red Shirt Entertainment Producing Artistic Director Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj. “As I’ve highlighted in the past, Red Shirt takes the task of education our audience very seriously. Many people may remember seeing news headlines about these horrific events, but very few know the human details.”
The Ethnic Cleansing Campaign, led by General Ratko Mladić, included the unlawful confinement, murder, rape, sexual assault, torture, beating, robbery and inhumane treatment of innocent Bosnian civilians, and ultimately caused for the deaths of 200,000 people. In 2005, the United States Congress deemed these events genocide stating that "the Serbian policies of aggression and ethnic cleansing meet the terms defining genocide."
“In addition to making the Remembrance Project informative, we have also taken steps to make sure we represent many different nations and regions,” said Red Shirt Executive Producer Frank O’Brien. “This helps drive the point that we truly are more alike than different.”
