Nemours Children’s Hospital Chooses Voalte Smartphones for Quiet, Efficient Communication
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- Voalte, the leader in clinical communication technology, today announced that Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida opted against using overhead paging in its new facility after implementing a smartphone-based clinical communication platform.
"Leveraging technology in creative ways to support the sharing of information with our patients and families is core to our patient family centered care philosophy," said Jackie Gustafson, Director of IT Applications at Nemours Children’s Hospital.
Nemours clinicians use Voalte OneTM to make voice calls, receive alarms and alerts, and send and receive text messages. Nurse call alarms are sent directly to the Voalte smartphone, and code alarms are triaged by The Logistics Center (TLC), which sends the alerts to an assigned caregiver. This communication hub eliminates the need for overhead paging, which helps reduce noise and increase response time.
"Voalte provides several modes of communication for the healthcare team," said Samantha Garrett, Senior Child Life Specialist at Nemours Children’s Hospital. "I love the ability to send texts to my team that are easy to type and read. In healthcare, seconds count, and being able to respond with only one word is priceless."
TLC also uses Voalte smartphones to distribute hospital-wide announcements, known as "Voalte Blasts," which have drastically reduced the number of emails sent to staff.
"Voalte has been instrumental in improving workflow and care coordination at our hospital," said Elizabeth Rodriguez, Application Support Supervisor. "The combination of voice, alarms and text messaging on one device is critical to the success of our staff and the satisfaction of our patients."
The 95-bed pediatric facility is part of the Nemours Health System, a nationally recognized system whose specialty programs include Cancer, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Pulmonology.
"As one of the top-ranking pediatric facilities in the nation, Nemours consistently selects technology that improves both workflow and patient care," said Trey Lauderdale, Founder and President of Voalte. "Selecting the Voalte alternative is another example of this hospital making strides to increase productivity while enhancing the patient experience."
